Who doesn't listen to music that they listen to from their teens? I listen to music that was popular during my childhood sometimes.

I listen to all kinds of music, Right now I'm listening to Stevie Wonder. One of my favorite songs Hanson Mmmbop reminds me of a very good year. Although my taste in music is somewhat different to what is was back then I still listen to some of it.

Yes, In my case that would be hard rock and heavy metal when I wanna get pumped up or if I am sad. Electronic and synth-pop when I am stoned.

Wait just a dang minute:

Okay, I'm not 85, but that passes along the sentiment.

First, I am never embarrassed about my choice of music.

Not even when my friends call my Barbara Streisand and Don Johnson duets sappy shit.

Not even when my wife rolls her eyes when I high step march through the house while the Pet Shop Boys sing Go West.

Second, I grew up listening to Marty Robbins and Elvis Presley. They performed many of the same songs, so I am accustomed to the same song performed in a different style. So cover versions for me, not repulsive.

Third, I'm a ballad guy, country ballad, rock ballad, heavy metal ballad, if the song tells a story, I'm in.

I listen to everything from Barry Manilow to Metallica, and ABBA to ZZtop.

You got a problem with that?*

*That sound embarrassed to you?

Let's try harder.

Cher and Christina Aguilera in Burlesque? Not embarrassed.

Johnny Hates Jazz? Not embarrassed.

The Rat Pack? Are you kidding me? Before my time, but awesome stuff.

Now, if anyone is still reading, enough of the heavy handed knee jerk reaction.

I've been thinking about a thread on memories associated with songs. Now, I believe I will do exactly that. In fact, I may start two similar threads, if I can figure out how to make each idea stand on it's own.

Many high school memories associated with certain songs. Many people I think of immediately when I hear a certain song. A road trip. Track practice. But not just nostalgia, I listen to those songs because I still like them.

@Namcot: Don't know what channel 8 is on XM radio, but I've got a cable station saved to favorites that plays the high school music nonstop, and I frequently play it while I shower, or perform any task that would prevent me from watching action on the screen.

@Gemini: Yeah, I've got the dance wildly playlist, the sad playlist, the chill out already playlist. ( I don't do stoned, but I have been known to do a good whisky numb.) I can make a road trip playlist and time a song to a mile marker if I feel like it.

@Fallon: Metallica S&M, Hard Rock and Orchestra, everything but a banjo. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing wrong with banjos, they just don't play well with other children.

Hope no one was offended. I put Little Jimmy Dickens in there in an attempt to be light hearted. Hope you all got the intent.

I see most of you are saying music from today sucks.
Well, that wasn't the point of my discussion actually.
Despite my preference for 1970s progressive rock, there are some pretty cool acts today as well.

I still love Pearl Jam. They still fill arenas, put out records and they were just inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Does that make me feel smug? Not really. I like a lot of of different kinds of music. It's ultimately subjective and at the end of the day who cares? Some people hate Pearl Jam; Good for them, doesn't bother me none. I'd probably like some Justin Beaver (lol) if I gave him half a chance. I can't look past his antics; He's stupid rich, young dumb and full of cum. Maybe he'll grow up one day.

Bottom line: I'm not ashamed of what I like, nor should anyone else be ashamed of what they like. Rock On!

Hello,
I'm still into the same Music from my teenage age: Hard Rock & Heavy Metal.
I don't really like new bands, I'm stucked into BÖC, Ted Nugent (my first concert in january '84) and Motörhead.
When I'm listen to them, I'm back more than 30 years ago and I remember the day I have bought their album or listen it or the first time...
But I really like Pro Pain and Overkill for their mighty power !
