Look at the actual out-of-division wins for each division and you will quickly niotice that the AFC East is far from a horrible division. The Patriots are really good and your self-proclaimed hatred for them severly clouds your judgement.
The years 2001 onwards are remarkable in success and consistency and everyone who at least tries to be objective about it notices this.
That being said, I really like the Falcons this year. Their defense is suspect but coming along nicely and the offense is on a tear. The Patriots specialize in taking away the primary weapon on offense, so Julio might face a healthy dose of double teams, but the Falcons have playmakers at receiver in abundance. Pats might actually try to play keepaway by running the ball.
Hoping for a great game, but don't think it will be a heavy shootout nor a blowout.

28-24 Falcons

GB was just on such a tear that they looked like they would at least keep the streak going enough to not get blownout. Finishing the game with your backup QB, and not because of injury, has to be a tad embarrassing.
This also shows that the regular season counts. It's not about just getting to the post season. It's about positioning...it's so critical. The Falcons and Pats did the job during the year to secure a first round playoff bye. Three consecutive knock out playoff games in a row without a week off can be a difficult chore. The Steelers and Pack did well enough during the season to make the playoffs but just didn't do enough to get that week off. The Pack may have put together a nice streak but before that run they were mediocre to bad at times. They needed to get things in order and avoid losses towards the end of the year to even make the post season. Attrition catches up with you. Not saying that's the only reason Atlanta and NE won but it probably had a lot to do with the discrepancy in the quality of the performances.

The last time the Packers put on a streak like that they did so all the way through the Wild Card round to a Superbowl victory (2010). The next year, when they breezed through the regular season at 15-1 and was everybody's pick to easily win it, they were knocked out in the first round after a bye.

Looking at actual stats, the teams with the best records have been losing more and more often in the last dozen years or so. Of the six wildcard teams to win the Super Bowl, 4 have been since 2000.

Positioning doesn't mean nearly as much as hitting your stride at the right time. You are right in saying the Packers ran out of energy, but it was more from essentially having to play an elimination game every week from about halfway through the season through this past weekend. They were also really banged up. They ended the game with only 5 playable off. linemen. Matt Ryan carved up a secondary consisting of HaHa Clinton Dix and a bunch of random dudes. They had a wide receiver playing running back for several weeks (albeit rather well), Jordy Nelson playing with broken ribs...

Damn as a Bear fan I can't believed I typed that much defending the Packers.

As a nfl lover myself, i feel generally sorry for your team, i remember watching the Denver Bronco's when Cutler was their QB and i was astonished at how awful he was, then he got traded to the bears, who have a MASSIVE fan base. Like i couldnt imagine watching him choke year after year after year, Chicago's front office needs to move on from him if you guys want a shot. And my teams out of it to, im a NY Giants fan, so im honestly not picking on the bears, i have nothing against your team, just he has to be one of the worst quarterbacks i have ever seen. I think id flip a coin between him and Flacco from Baltimore

Thats what happened last year when the Pats played in the AFC championship game. They had so many guys out and lost. Having healthy players in the playoffs is a must. If you have depth you got guys that can step up but still you want to have a healthy team if you wanna go to the Super Bowl.

Didn't the Pats make it to the Superbowl in 2011 with Matt Slater and Julian Edelman having to play Defensive Back occasionally? And if memory serves me right, the Packers had many players on the injury reserve list when they last won it all. But let's face it, it requires a tremendous team and great leadership to overcome those difficulties and this years' Packers were a deeply flawed team from the beginning. And for all his greatness, Aaron Rodgers hasn't been able to reproduce his 2010 season in the Playoffs, so he couldn't carry his team any further.

As for the Bears and Jay Cutler: No sympathy from me. Josh McDaniels might have been a disaster as Head Coach of the Denver Broncos, but he knows how to work with quarterbacks and couldn't wait to get rid of him in favor of Kyle freaking Orton. This should have been a major red flag to the entire league, yet the Bears made the ridiculous trade and subsequently handed Cutler this insane contract.

Yes the pats made it in 2011 and LOST thankfully to my Giants. It was awsome and showed that like EVERY OTHER TEAM, that doesnt wanna tackle or go near brady to not mess up his hair, Tom Coughlin yelled and pushed his guys, i believe Tommy boy was sacked 5 times in that game, he was 200% outmatched even with the great 'leadership' then after the game his wife made excuses for him as Eli was getting the MVP. it was like heaven for me. 1 quick thing about the Bronco's, because their coach just had to step down for medical reasons, i firmly believe Peyton Manning would be a great replacement, they just last year won it all with him and if anyone can work with their quarterback, cant think of anyone better.

200% outmatched in a game that saw him set the record for consecutive completions (16) in a Superbowl while leading his team to 17 unanswered points, with a hobbled Gronkowski unable to contribute anything?

Giants are an interesting story, though, since they turned relatively poor regular seasons (making playoffs at 9-7, which is interesting since you called the AFC East 'horrible') into championships. They are certainly a great example of teams getting hot at the right time, but also for the small details that make the difference between winning and losing; in each win it came down to insane offensive plays by the Giants (Tyree and Manningham/Manning) and miscues by the Patriots (IIRC Asante Samuel should have intercepted Eli in '07 before The Catch II, Wes Welker should have caught the pass for the first down while in the lead in '11). Those were great games that featured incredible defensive line play by the Giants and were decided in the closing seconds, which is all neutral fans can hope for in a Superbowl.

As far as Peyton Manning in any capacity as Head Coach is concerned, I just cannot envision him standing on a sideline, coaching. I feel like he might look for a John Elway-ish role, building a team and sitting in a booth. He would probably be great in that role, as well.

Come to think of, is there any good to great former player who went on to coach successfully? Names that come to mind: Mike Ditka, Mike Munchak, Mike Singletary... Mike Ditka might fit the description.

Im not defending tom brady, i will never be a fan, nor will i ever have the sexual attraction, obsession, tunnel vision as every male does to think hes this amazing human and quarterback. Hes average, nothing else, he will NEVER be John Elway, Troy Aikman or Joe Montana, they were the best you will ever see. Eli manning is a better quarterback and person than brady can ever hope to be, and hes currently nominated for the Man of the year award cause he does alot to help small kids and cancer. Does brady? no, he endorses cologne. And your right about the NFL and former players as coaches, Other than Elway i cant think of 1 right now. Baseball is different, many former players have gone on to become managers and coaches, 1 that comes to mind is Terry Franconia, 2 world series titles and a American league pennant as he was a former, average player but he still played. And my last thought on the Giants, please go back at the 2007/08 superbowl, the patriots were slaughtered, both Plaxico Burress and Michael Strahan had the games of their lives, yes the one in 2011 was closer, but they both weren't, just a fact, you can go look it up.

And the patriots won in 2015 on a HORRIBLE botched play due to Seattle's overrated coach. brady was on the bench, making sure he was smiling
